Residents of Berekum in the Bono Region have staged a protest against the destruction of farmlands and water bodies through illegal mining activities.

The demonstration comes less than 24 hours after a similar protest in Atronie, where residents also raised concerns over the destruction of their major water source and the impact of galamsey on their livelihoods.

The Berekum residents are calling for urgent action to protect farmlands, water bodies and the communities that depend on them, as concerns over the environmental impact of illegal mining continue to grow.
