He got it wrong before he got it right: Shing-Tung Yau on the road to a breakthrough

Before becoming a Fields Medalist, renowned mathematician Shing-Tung Yau spent three years working on the Calabi conjecture and believed he had found a counter example. He announced the result at a major conference, only to later discover that he was wrong. During the interview with CGTN's Tian Wei, Yau recalls the experience as deeply painful, but it did not stop him. He spent another three years rebuilding his approach, step by step, eventually solving the problem. #ICBS2026
