Teachers Threaten Industrial Action Over 20% Deprived-Area Allowance

The Pre-Tertiary Teachers Association of Ghana (PRETAG) has issued a two-week ultimatum to government to implement the promised 20 percent deprived-area allowance for teachers, warning that failure to act could trigger a series of industrial actions.
PRETAG is also demanding that government fulfil commitments made to teachers during the 2024 election period, including the promotion of teachers from Deputy Director to Director II and Director I.
Addressing the media, PRETAG National President King Ali Awudu said government has until the end of August to respond to their demands.
The association says it expects concrete action from government to address the concerns of pre-tertiary teachers and improve conditions for educators serving in deprived areas.
