Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Björkegren has described Ghana's quarter-final exit from the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) as the most painful moment of his two-decade coaching career.
Ghana's hopes of reaching the semi-finals were ended by a 2–1 defeat to Malawi on Sunday, August 9, a result that also denied the Black Queens automatic qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup.
However, Ghana's World Cup hopes remain alive.
The Black Queens will face Côte d'Ivoire on Tuesday, August 11, in a crucial play-off. Victory would keep Ghana in contention for a place at the 2027 World Cup in Brazil through the intercontinental play-off route.
