Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts Minister Dzifa Abla Gomashie has outlined a range of government initiatives aimed at strengthening Ghana's film, tourism and creative industries.
She says government has allocated GH¢20 million for the establishment of a Film Development Fund, which will support film production, exhibition, capacity building and skills development.
The Minister also spoke about efforts to improve the National Theatre, saying enhanced maintenance and security have contributed to increased patronage. Ghana and China are also working towards the renovation and modernisation of the facility.
On tourism, Dzifa Gomashie described Accra by Night as a viable tourism product that can expand the sector beyond daytime activities while creating opportunities for restaurants, artists, transport operators and small businesses.
She also highlighted plans to upgrade and protect key national tourism and heritage assets, including measures to improve safety and visitor experience.
Meanwhile, Ghana is set to host the first-ever Afro-Caribbean Creative Bridge Conference on intellectual property for Africa and the Caribbean, in partnership with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). The conference will focus on copyright, licensing, royalties and digital distribution for music creators.
The Minister further disclosed that Cabinet has backed a proposal to prioritise the completion of existing theatre and cultural centre projects in the Ashanti Region rather than starting new ones.
