Cancer Care: Private Doctors Call for Tax Waivers on Advanced Medical Equipment

Private medical and dental practitioners are calling on government to waive import duties and taxes on advanced medical equipment, including MRI and PET-CT scanners, to improve cancer diagnosis and treatment in Ghana.

The Society of Private Medical and Dental Practitioners says the high cost of importing the equipment is limiting access to essential cancer care.

The group's call comes amid an estimated 28,000 new cancer cases and 18,000 cancer-related deaths in Ghana each year.
