Weija Children Specialist Hospital Handed Over to Government After Years of Delay

The contractor responsible for the construction of the Children Specialist Hospital in Weija has handed over the facility to government.
Officials from the Ministry of Health received the 120-bed hospital before handing it over to the Ghana Health Service on Friday morning, according to sources familiar with the development.
However, it remains unclear when the facility will be operationalised, as questions remain over whether a management team has been constituted to oversee its operations.
The development follows calls from residents and parents in Weija for the hospital to be opened after its construction was completed more than a year ago.
The Member of Parliament for Weija Gbawe, Jerry Ahmed Shaib, has again urged authorities to make the facility available to the public, stressing that the hospital should not be delayed by political considerations.
When fully operational, the 120-bed Children Specialist Hospital is expected to provide advanced paediatric care and help reduce pressure on the St. Marie Louis Children's Hospital, which continues to face infrastructure challenges.
