Asokore Mampong Court: Families Clash After Remand of Sabon Zongo Suspects

Tensions erupted at the Asokore Mampong District Court after relatives of the accused persons and the deceased engaged in a confrontation following the remand of five suspects in the Sabon Zongo alleged murder case.
The five accused persons were remanded for the second time during a committal hearing over the alleged murder of 27-year-old Yusuf Zakari, who was allegedly lynched after accusations that he stole GH₵4,800.
Police say Yusuf Zakari was attacked by a group of individuals at a cattle kraal in Sabon Zongo on July 19 and later died at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital after sustaining severe injuries.
The accused persons — Moses Adoko, Abubakari Adams, Nurudeen Suleman, Mohammed Amadu, and Halidu Issaka — were remanded after the prosecution requested more time for investigations and efforts to trace other suspects believed to be connected to the incident.
Counsel for the accused persons opposed the remand application, arguing that their clients were not flight risks and would cooperate with the court.
The court, presided over by Her Ladyship Mrs. Hilder Esther Wryter, granted the prosecution's request and ordered the suspects to remain in custody. They are expected to reappear on August 24, 2026.
Following the court's decision, tensions outside the courtroom escalated into verbal exchanges and a physical confrontation before security personnel intervened.
