AI in Healthcare: Ghana Health Experts Warn Against Replacing Human Doctors

Managers in Ghana's health sector are cautioning against overreliance on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in healthcare, stressing that technology must complement, not replace, human expertise.

They say while AI has the potential to transform healthcare delivery, inadequate human oversight in its application could compromise patient safety and lead to serious consequences.

The concerns were raised at the 2026 International Conference on AI in Healthcare and Pharma held at the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) in Ho, Volta Region.

Health professionals and stakeholders at the conference discussed the opportunities and challenges associated with integrating AI into healthcare systems, including the need for ethical use, regulation and continued human decision-making.
