Families of the victims of the August 6, 2025 helicopter crash have urged government to intensify the fight against illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, as the nation marks one year since the tragedy.
In their tribute speeches at the National Interfaith Memorial Service, the families called for decisive action against illegal mining, describing it as one of the most meaningful ways to honour the memories of their loved ones.
The August 6 helicopter crash claimed the lives of eight Ghanaians, including two Ministers of State, who died while on official duty.
The families said protecting Ghana's environment and addressing the destruction caused by illegal mining would preserve the legacy of those who lost their lives.
