Iran says Hormuz shipping route framework with Oman is nearly complete

Iran says it has reached an understanding with Oman on the geographical coordinates of a new shipping route through the Strait of Hormuz, bringing weeks of negotiations closer to a formal agreement. Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi says almost all issues remain under discussion, including the route map, transit arrangements, and the movement of vessels entering and leaving the waterway. Tehran says bilateral agreements with Oman are close to being finalised and insists the talks are taking place without outside interference. Iranian officials argue any agreement would not restore conditions before the conflict, blaming US military actions and a naval blockade for disrupting navigation. Washington rejects reports that Iran would control traffic through the strait, saying any temporary route should not require permits, approvals or fees. Meanwhile, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian says the country's enemies have targeted its commanders, scientists and strategic capabilities. A temporary shipping arrangement may be close, but the wider dispute over the Strait of Hormuz remains unresolved.
