Acting Rent Control Commissioner Vows Crackdown on Hostels Exploiting Students

The Acting Commissioner of the Rent Control Department, Frederick Opoku, has vowed to shut down hostels found to be taking undue advantage of students across the country.

Speaking to the media after an unannounced inspection at Koforidua Technical University, Mr. Opoku said two hostels, Adehyi3 Hostel and Serwaa Heights Hostel, were closed following the exercise.

He also disclosed that the Rent Control Department is collaborating with the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) to identify and act against unlicensed and unsanitary hostels as part of a nationwide enforcement exercise.

Mr. Opoku further assured that students affected by the closures would receive refunds.
