GTA’s Jones Haruna Nelson Shuts Down Two Koforidua Hostels After Surprise Inspection

The Eastern Regional Director of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Jones Haruna Nelson, has issued closure notices to two private student hostels near Koforidua Technical University following a surprise inspection.
The inspection, conducted together with officials from the Rent Control Commission, followed complaints from students over poor sanitation and management conditions in some private hostels.
During the exercise, officials inspected Serwaa Heights and Adehyi3 Hostel, where students raised concerns about the state of the facilities despite paying significant accommodation fees.
Students occupying the hostels called on the Rent Control Commission and the Ghana Tourism Authority to extend the exercise to all unsanitary hostels in Koforidua.
