Obuasi SHST Rampage: Students Attack Headteacher Over Alleged Baby Burial Incident

There is a heavy security presence at Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHST) in the Ashanti Region after some students went on a rampage, assaulting the headteacher and vandalising school property.
The students allegedly attacked the headteacher, Abdullai Zakari, after claims emerged that he had buried a newborn on the school's campus.
Reports indicate that the incident occurred between 12:30 a.m. and 1:30 a.m. when a student allegedly spotted the headteacher's vehicle near the school's refuse dump and raised an alarm.
The students reportedly moved to the area, where they claimed to have discovered a buried infant estimated to be about five to six months old, leading to a confrontation with the headteacher.
The headteacher, who sustained multiple injuries during the attack, is currently receiving treatment at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi.
Police later arrived at the scene, exhumed the body and deposited it at the morgue, while preventing further escalation. However, some school properties, including items at the headteacher's bungalow, were reportedly destroyed.
The Obuasi Municipal Chief Executive and Head of the Municipal Security Council, Faustilove Appiah Kannin, together with senior police officers, visited the school and appealed for calm as investigations continue.
