AI in Healthcare: Experts Warn Against Over-Reliance on Artificial Intelligence

Stakeholders in the health sector are cautioning healthcare professionals against relying entirely on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in medical practice, warning that inadequate human oversight could put patient safety at risk.
Speaking at the 2026 International Conference on AI in Healthcare & Pharma at the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS), Dr. George Agyekum Donkor called for strong policies and regulatory frameworks to guide the responsible use of AI in healthcare.
He stressed that while AI has the potential to transform healthcare delivery through improved diagnosis, research and efficiency, it must complement — not replace — professional judgement and human expertise.
The conference brought together stakeholders to discuss the opportunities and challenges associated with integrating AI into healthcare and pharmaceutical systems.
