The Western Central Police Command has confirmed that three people were killed and three others injured following an explosion at a tailings site at Aboso near Tarkwa in the Western Region.
According to preliminary police investigations, the explosion was triggered after gunshots allegedly fired at a python ignited explosives stored at the facility.
The injured victims are receiving medical treatment, while police and other relevant authorities continue investigations to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
Authorities have urged the public to await the outcome of investigations as efforts continue to determine how the explosives were ignited and whether safety protocols at the site were observed.
