Minister for Government Communications Felix Kwakye Ofosu has rejected claims that the government played a role in the acquittal of former MASLOC CEO Sedina Tamakloe by the Court of Appeal.
Speaking on Face to Face with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Channel One TV, Mr. Kwakye Ofosu argued that the timeline of events shows the NDC government had no involvement in the original trial, the appeal process or the court's eventual decision.
He explained that Sedina Tamakloe was prosecuted under the previous administration, left Ghana after receiving permission from the court to seek medical treatment abroad, and was only brought back to Ghana after the current government followed through with an existing extradition process.
Mr. Kwakye Ofosu defended the independence of the Court of Appeal, saying courts must be allowed to make decisions based on evidence and the law rather than public pressure or political expectations.
He also dismissed claims that the ruling represented selective justice, arguing that the same legal process that leads to convictions must also allow acquittals where prosecutors fail to prove cases beyond reasonable doubt.
The Minister further addressed the Attorney General's decision to seek a stay of execution and appeal the ruling at the Supreme Court, confirming that Sedina Tamakloe remains in custody pending further legal processes.
He also responded to the New Patriotic Party's planned demonstration, questioning the basis of claims that government is undermining democracy and judicial independence.
