Minister for Government Communications Felix Kwakye Ofosu joins Umaru Sanda Amadu on Face to Face for an in-depth discussion on some of Ghana's biggest political, economic and governance issues.
Mr. Kwakye Ofosu addresses concerns surrounding the Court of Appeal's acquittal of former MASLOC CEO Sedina Tamakloe, rejecting claims that the Mahama administration influenced the outcome of the case. He explains the timeline of the prosecution, the appeal process and why government believes the judiciary must be allowed to operate independently.
He also responds to the New Patriotic Party's planned demonstration, questioning claims of selective justice, attacks on democracy and judicial interference.
On the economy, the Minister breaks down the recent fuel price changes, explaining why current pump prices differ from November 2022 despite crude oil prices hovering around similar levels. He attributes the difference largely to the performance of the Ghana cedi against the US dollar and government's management of fuel pricing.
Mr. Kwakye Ofosu further explains government's position on the Constitutional Review Committee recommendations, including the proposed five-year presidential term, the reduction of the presidential age limit to 35 years, the expansion of Parliament to 300 members, and the election of MMDCEs.
He also discusses Ghana's relations with South Africa, the delayed presidential visit, and government's concerns over xenophobic attacks affecting Ghanaians and other African nationals
