Cocoa Farmers Welcome New COCOBOD Bill Over 70% Revenue Guarantee

Some cocoa farmers have welcomed the passage of the Ghana Cocoa Board Bill, 2026, saying the legislation could help address some of the longstanding challenges facing the sector.
The new law is expected to introduce major reforms, including a guarantee that cocoa farmers will receive not less than 70 per cent of the Free on Board (FOB) export price of cocoa through the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD).
The legislation also seeks to promote local industrialisation by ensuring greater availability of cocoa beans for domestic processors.
Speaking to Channel One Business News, the President of the Mankrong Cocoa Cooperative Farmers' Association, Francis Teinor, explained how the new bill could improve the livelihoods of cocoa farmers and strengthen the sector.
