GPRTU Says GH¢2 Diesel Subsidy May Not Stop Transport Fare Increase

The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) says the government's decision to absorb GH¢2 on every litre of diesel may not prevent its planned review of transport fares.

The intervention is aimed at cushioning consumers against rising fuel prices, but the Union says the proposed fare adjustment is influenced by several factors beyond fuel costs.

Speaking to Channel One News, Deputy Public Relations Officer of the GPRTU, Samuel Amoah, explained that issues such as operational expenses and other costs affecting commercial transport operators will also determine the final fare decision.

The Union says discussions on transport fares will consider the broader economic conditions facing drivers and commuters.
