The government's decision to absorb GH¢2 per litre of diesel cost has sparked discussions over Ghana's vulnerability to global oil market pressures and the measures needed to protect consumers.
Former Anyaa Sowutwom MP, Dr Dickson Adomako Kissi, says the intervention reflects the impact of global geopolitical developments on fuel prices, urging government to be transparent with Ghanaians about external factors influencing the cost of petroleum products.
He also argues that Ghana's dependence on petroleum imports exposes the country to global market shocks.
Meanwhile, MP for Yendi, Abdul-Fatawu Alhassan, says the intervention comes at a time of unprecedented disruptions in global oil supply. He highlights exchange rate stability and inflation management as factors helping to cushion the impact on consumers, while calling for stronger petroleum reserves and increased local production.
Editor of the Herald Newspaper, Larry Dogbey, says African leaders must move beyond speeches on global platforms and push for concrete actions to address economic challenges affecting the continent.
