Months after the Kaneshie Market footbridges were closed over safety concerns, rehabilitation works have yet to begin, forcing thousands of pedestrians to cross the busy highway at great risk every day.

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) says the delay is due to ongoing works under the Greater Accra Resilient and Integrated Development (GARID) project.

According to the Assembly, the rehabilitation of the footbridges is linked to the broader drainage works being undertaken through the GARID project, making it difficult to begin repairs until the related construction activities are completed.

The prolonged closure has raised concerns among commuters and traders, with many calling for urgent action to improve pedestrian safety in the area.
