Ghana’s Strong Fiscal Performance Raises Economic Growth Concerns – ISSER

The Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research (ISSER) has raised concerns that Ghana's strong fiscal performance in the first half of 2026 may have come at a cost to economic growth.
Presenting ISSER's assessment of the 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review, the Institute's Director, Professor Robert Darko Osei, said although government achieved its broad fiscal targets, the underlying factors driving the performance require closer examination.
According to ISSER, maintaining fiscal discipline is important, but it must be balanced with measures that support economic expansion, job creation and private sector growth.
The Institute is calling for closer scrutiny of the quality and sustainability of the fiscal improvements recorded.
