Accra Mayor Explains Why Kaneshie Footbridge Repairs Have Delayed

Accra Mayor Michael Kpakpo Allotey has attributed delays in the rehabilitation of the Kaneshie Market footbridges to ongoing works under the Greater Accra Resilient and Integrated Development (GARID) project.
Speaking to Channel One News, the Mayor explained that the footbridges form part of the broader GARID drainage infrastructure, making it impractical for the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) to begin rehabilitation until the related construction works are completed.
He assured commuters that the Assembly has put interim measures in place to improve pedestrian safety, including deploying traffic control personnel at the footbridge areas every day, including Sundays, to help residents cross the busy roadway safely.
