The Head of Ghana's delegation to the Pan-African Parliament, Bernard Ahiafor, is calling on governments across Africa to prioritise the inclusion of young people in formal decision-making processes to strengthen democracy.
The First Deputy Speaker of Ghana's Parliament said young people are often consulted only after major decisions have been made, with many viewed as beneficiaries of policies rather than partners in shaping them.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the inaugural Pan-African Youth Parliament for Democracy, Bernard Ahiafor stressed that youth participation in governance should not be treated as a favour but as a democratic imperative.
He urged African leaders and institutions to create meaningful platforms that allow young people to contribute to policy development and decisions that affect their future.
