ACEP Warns Methane Emissions Could Hurt Ghana’s Environment and Economy

The Africa Centre for Energy Policy (ACEP) has warned that the absence of effective regulation on excessive methane emissions could create serious environmental and economic challenges for Ghana.
To address the issue, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), with support from the Fossil Fuel Regulatory Programme — a partnership involving the Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC), ACEP, and the Clean Air Task Force (CATF) — has developed the Guidelines for Inspection, Monitoring and Reporting of Fugitive Methane Emissions from Oil and Gas Operations in Ghana.
According to ACEP Executive Director Benjamin Boakye, the framework provides mechanisms and actions petroleum operators must adopt to prevent, monitor and control methane emissions from their operations.
The Director for Corporate Affairs at the EPA, Audrey Quarcoo, speaking on behalf of the Chief Executive Officer, said the Authority is committed to ensuring the guidelines are implemented effectively and result in measurable improvements.
