The National Council of Parent-Teacher Associations (NCP-PTA) has rejected calls to ban imported plastic provision boxes, urging government to instead establish national standards to regulate all student chop boxes.

The call follows concerns from traders and manufacturers of traditional wooden chop boxes, who argue that the increasing preference for plastic alternatives is affecting their businesses.

The NCP-PTA says the focus should be on ensuring that all student chop boxes meet safety and quality requirements rather than restricting consumer choices.
