GRDA Raises Alarm Over Safety Threats After Train Collides With Six Goats on Tema–Mpakadan Line

The Ghana Railway Development Authority (GRDA) has raised concerns over growing safety threats along the Tema–Mpakadan Railway Line following an incident where a passenger train collided with six goats on the track.

GRDA CEO Frederick Appoh said the incident, which occurred on July 30, highlights persistent challenges including encroachment, vandalism and interference with railway operations.

The passenger train, DMU002, was carrying more than 150 passengers and was travelling at about 45 kilometres per hour when it struck the animals.

Mr. Appoh has urged the public to respect railway safety regulations, explaining that trains cannot abruptly stop or change direction to avoid obstacles on the tracks.
