'Somebody Just Wanted to Free Sedina' - Kofi Bentil Speaks Out

Vice President of IMANI Africa, Kofi Bentil, delivers a sharp critique of the Court of Appeal's acquittal of former MASLOC CEO Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu, warning of a troubling pattern in how politically connected officials escape accountability in Ghana.

"No wise person ignores a trend. There is a clear pattern that, if you get into trouble, the smart thing to do is delay the process until your political party returns to power, and they will clear you." — Kofi Bentil

"Let's abolish MASLOC; it's a total waste of resources because they end up giving loans to political party supporters who do not pay back. If you put all the trends together, it looks like somebody just wanted to free Sedina Tamakloe. The appeal of the Attorney-General will not yield any results." — Kofi Bentil

Speaking on TV3's The Key Points, Bentil argued that the sheer number of charges initially brought against Tamakloe-Attionu made the acquittal difficult to understand, noting that a single charge would typically be enough to secure a conviction. He warned that the perception of governments clearing their own political appointees weakens public confidence in Ghana's fight against corruption.
