Fmr. fire ranger: DOGE DELAYED a $10 million wildfire grant. It ‘would’ve really helped us’
Minnesota's Superior National Forest received a $10 million grant in 2024 to cover wildfire prevention efforts, then DOGE came along and delayed funding. Now, parts of that area are burning. “Could those firefighters have been doing something else? Could that fire have been stopped in less acres?” says Aaron Kania, a former wildland firefighter in Minnesota. The outcomes “would've been better had that work been done before the fires.”
