The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced a nationwide demonstration on August 6, 2026, saying it will be joined by other political parties, civil society organisations, professional bodies, student groups, youth movements and citizens to “defend Ghana's democracy.”

At a press briefing, the party criticised the Attorney General's decision to discontinue the prosecution of former MASLOC CEO Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu, describing it as a politically selective use of prosecutorial discretion.

The NPP also raised concerns about the independence of the judiciary, alleged selective assignment of politically sensitive cases, criticised the public tribunal system, questioned bail conditions imposed on political opponents, and warned against any attempt to alter Ghana's two-term presidential limit.

The party further demanded the immediate release of Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi-Boasiako (Chairman Wontumi), describing his conviction as politically motivated, and disclosed that it has filed more than 20 grounds of appeal challenging the judgment.
