Minority Slams Minerals Commission Over ‘Flawed’ Mining Lease Agreements

The Minority has criticised the Minerals Commission over what it says are serious flaws in six mining lease agreements approved by Parliament.

The Ranking Member on the Lands and Natural Resources Committee, Kwaku Ampratwum-Sarpong, described the Commission's work as substandard, insisting that the agreements contained inconsistencies and defects that should have been thoroughly examined before approval.

Among the agreements is the mining lease for Damang Gold Limited, which is currently managed by Engineers and Planners.

Speaking to journalists after the approval, Ampratwum-Sarpong argued that Parliament should have taken more time to scrutinise the agreements instead of proceeding with what he described as a hurried ratification process.
