VALCO Workers Defy Lands Minister Over Strategic Equity Investor Plan

The VALCO Local Union says it will not back down despite what it describes as intimidation by the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, over its public opposition to government's proposed strategic equity investor arrangement for the company.

The Union alleges that during the Minister's visit to VALCO on July 30, he urged management to act against employees who publicly criticised the proposed arrangement and suggested workers were concealing the company's operational challenges.

Speaking to Channel One News, VALCO Local Union Chairman Samuel Agyemang described the Minister's remarks as intimidation.
