Pope Leo XIV meets singer Patti Smith

Pope Leo XIV met singer, poet and author Patti Smith on Friday at the Vatican. Rev. Antonio Spadaro, a Vatican official who was in the audience with Smith, posted on social media, calling the moment "unforgettable," with "two remarkable figures whose voices speak hope to a divided world." Smith performed in May during events marking the first anniversary of the pope's election to the papacy. Smith and the pope also share a hometown: Chicago.
