Government Accepts Proposal to Extend Presidential and Parliamentary Term to 5 Years

The government has accepted a major recommendation of the Constitutional Review Committee (CRC) to extend the tenure of the President and Members of Parliament from four years to five years.

The Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, announced the decision while presenting the government's White Paper on the CRC's recommendations.

According to Dr. Ayine, the proposal is intended to provide governments with more time to implement, evaluate and assess their policies before returning to the electorate for a fresh mandate.

The recommendation forms part of broader constitutional reform discussions aimed at reviewing Ghana's governance framework and strengthening democratic institutions.
