Freddie Blay Rejects One-Member-One-Vote Primaries as “Unrealistic”

Former First Deputy Speaker of Parliament and former NPP Chairman, Freddie Blay, has described calls for all members of political parties to participate in presidential and parliamentary primaries as unrealistic.

His comments follow the Supreme Court's ruling declaring the delegates system used by political parties to elect candidates unconstitutional and the government's proposal to amend the Constitution to facilitate a broader voting system.

Speaking to Channel One News' Hanson Agyemang, the private legal practitioner questioned the practicality of allowing every registered party member to take part in internal elections, citing possible logistical and operational challenges.

Mr. Blay also argued that the Constitution Review Committee should have recommended the removal of the Constitution's indemnity clauses, which continue to generate public debate.
