Economist Professor Godfred Bokpin has warned that Ghana's recurring infrastructure challenges, particularly prolonged power outages, are affecting the country's competitiveness, increasing the cost of doing business and potentially weakening investor confidence.
Speaking at the Prudential Bank Business Seminar on Transforming Cross-Border Trade, Prof. Bokpin described recent electricity disruptions in Accra as a reflection of declining state capacity and questioned whether Ghana is providing the reliable infrastructure needed to support economic growth.
He explained that an unstable power supply affects business operations, disrupts planning and creates uncertainty for both local enterprises and potential investors.
According to Prof. Bokpin, addressing infrastructure gaps is critical if Ghana is to reduce operational costs, improve productivity and maintain its attractiveness as an investment destination.
