Breathtaking views of 'Lake of Fortune' at 4,970 meters

This is the best time of year to visit Lake Sijin Latso in Maizhokunggar County, Xizang Autonomous Region.

Sijin Latso means "a powerful sacred lake" in Tibetan. Locals also call it the "Lake of Fortune," believing it to be the home of the Dragon King of Maizhokunggar, a legendary figure associated with wealth and prosperity.

At 4,970 meters above sea level, it sits like a treasure bowl among the mountains, its waters shifting from turquoise to deep blue as the light changes.

And today, the "fortune" is taking a new form.

As more visitors arrive, local villagers are selling fresh yak milk and dairy products, running tea houses and shops, and making a living from tourism.
