Ghana's Black Queens have made a winning start to their 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) campaign with a comfortable 2-0 victory over tournament debutants Cape Verde in their Group D opener in Casablanca.

Doris Boaduwaa opened the scoring after just six minutes as Ghana dominated the early exchanges, controlled possession and created several opportunities throughout the first half.

The Black Queens extended their lead eight minutes after the restart when Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah's dangerous cross forced Cape Verde defender Eleia Vieira into an own goal.

The result gives Ghana a strong foundation as the team continues its pursuit of a first WAFCON title since 2006.
