Ghana Does Not Have Too Many Nurses – Nursing Council Explains Unemployment Crisis

The Nursing and Midwifery Council has rejected claims that Ghana has an oversupply of nurses, attributing the unemployment situation among trained nurses to challenges with financial clearance, recruitment and healthcare infrastructure.
The Council says Ghana's healthcare system still requires more nurses, noting that the over 100,000 unemployed nurses could help improve the country's nurse-to-patient ratio if they are recruited.
According to the Council, addressing recruitment bottlenecks and expanding healthcare infrastructure will be critical to ensuring that trained nurses are absorbed into the system.
