Supreme Court Orders NPP, NDC and Other Parties to End Delegate System

The Supreme Court has declared the delegate system used by political parties to elect their presidential and parliamentary candidates unconstitutional, directing parties to adopt a more inclusive voting process.
In a 5–2 majority decision, the Court ruled that every member in good standing of a political party should be allowed to participate in the election of presidential and parliamentary candidates.
Political parties have been given one year from the date of the judgment to comply with the directive, effectively ending the long-standing delegate system under which only selected delegates voted on behalf of the wider party membership.
Reacting to the ruling, NPP Director of Legal Affairs Gary Nimako Marfo questioned who would bear the cost of conducting such expanded internal elections.
