Witchcraft Accusations Bill Returns to Parliament as MPs Push New Law

Five Members of Parliament from both sides of the House have reintroduced the Criminal Offences Amendment Bill, 2026, seeking to prohibit the activities of witch doctors and witch finders and outlaw the accusation, naming or labelling of any person as a witch.

The bipartisan private member's bill, led by Asante Akim Central MP Kwame Anyimadu-Antwi, is co-sponsored by Krachi West MP Helen Adjoa Ntoso, Salaga South MP Zuwera Mohammed Ibrahim, Ketu South MP Abla Dzifa Gomashie, and Wa West MP Dr. Godfred Seidu Jasaw.

The bill was previously introduced by Madina MP Francis-Xavier Sosu and passed by the 8th Parliament but lapsed after failing to receive presidential assent.

The latest move renews parliamentary efforts to strengthen legal protection for persons accused of witchcraft and address harmful practices associated with such accusations.
