Ghana Exits IMF Programme: KPMG Says Focus Must Shift to Long-Term Reforms

The successful completion of Ghana's three-year International Monetary Fund (IMF) Extended Credit Facility (ECF) programme marks a major milestone in the country's economic recovery journey.

However, KPMG Ghana says the focus must now move beyond crisis stabilisation towards strengthening institutions, sustaining reforms and building long-term policy credibility.

The firm says Ghana's proposed transition to a 36-month Policy Coordination Instrument (PCI) represents a new phase of engagement with the IMF, focused on policy discipline rather than financial support.

Speaking on the transition, Head of Markets and Partner at KPMG Ghana, Kwame Sarpong Banieh, said the PCI should not be viewed as another bailout programme, but as a framework to reinforce sound economic management.
