Transport unions have suspended their planned 30% fare increase ahead of the next petroleum products pricing window on July 31, following a closed-door meeting with the Ministry of Transport.

The unions had announced plans for an upward adjustment in transport fares, citing rising operational costs driven by increasing fuel prices and other expenses affecting commercial transport operators.

Speaking to Channel One News after the engagement, Deputy Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), Samuel Amoah, said the unions remain open to further discussions with government if no immediate measures are introduced to cushion transport operators.

The unions say the sustainability of the transport sector depends on interventions that address the growing cost pressures facing operators.
