Parasite outbreak spreads nationwide

A nationwide outbreak of cyclosporiasis has sickened more than 11,500 people across 41 U.S. states, prompting an investigation into contaminated produce.

U.S. health officials have linked many cases to shredded iceberg lettuce supplied by Taylor Farms and served at Taco Bell, although the company and Mexican officials dispute definitive responsibility after an initial positive test was later deemed a false positive.

The outbreak has also renewed debate over U.S. food safety surveillance and funding.

While federal officials say the outbreak is under control, infections continue to rise, with Michigan reporting the largest number of cases and hundreds of hospitalizations. CGTN's Nitza Soledad Perez reports from Miami, Florida.
