Local Union Chairman Samuel Ajima says the proposed transaction would significantly undervalue VALCO and should be halted, arguing the company is making steady operational improvements and can continue its modernization without relinquishing majority ownership. The union has petitioned President John Dramani Mahama to review the alleged decision.
However, the Professional and Management Staff Association rejects the claims, insisting that no investor has been finalized. Senior Metallurgist Samuel Andor argues that VALCO's aging infrastructure requires substantial equity investment and says concerns should be addressed through the established review process rather than public demonstrations.
The debate highlights growing divisions within VALCO's workforce over the company's future, the search for a strategic investor, and the best path to ensuring the long-term sustainability of Ghana's aluminum industry.
