We Talk: UK vlogger reflects on AI boom in Xinjiang

A couple of years ago, electric vehicles, lithium batteries and solar cells were known as China's "new three." But in the first half of this year, robots, artificial intelligence (AI) and innovative medicines emerged as China's "new 'new three'" in global trade.

UK vlogger Luke Johnston has long been following China's AI industry. In this video, he talks about how AI is being put to work in China's remote regions. From faster visa processing to real time data dashboards in libraries, AI has also become part of everyday life for people in Urumqi, northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. At the First Affiliated Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University, AI models help doctors analyze medical images and generate reports. At the Urumqi International Land Port Area, optimized algorithms manage container scheduling and map out cross-border routes straight to Europe. Johnston remarks that 2,000 years ago, camel caravans traveled along the ancient Silk Road. Today, AI is streamlining logistics and connecting the world.
