Netanyahu heads to Washington as Israeli ex-officials urge Trump to curb West Bank violence

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is on his way to the United States for a meeting with President Donald Trump in Washington on Tuesday, their first meeting since February, just weeks before launching the war in Iraq. Netanyahu says he will discuss "all the issues on the agenda, first and foremost, Iran," while also aiming to expand the circle of peace. Ahead of the meeting, some 600 former senior Israeli military, defence, and diplomatic officials have written a joint letter to President Trump, urging him to press Netanyahu to curb escalating violence in the occupied West Bank. They warned that unless the violence is "arrested swiftly and decisively," it is "poised to ignite the region" and carries "severe ramifications for both Israeli security and US regional interests." The officials also warned against the government's agenda of expanding illegal settlements and encouraging land grabs by Israeli settlers, saying this threatens both Israeli security and Trump's goal of expanding the Abraham Accords.
