China's metro stations offer free cooling spots as heat wave hits

As scorching summer temperatures grip southwest China, metro stations in Chongqing and Chengdu are opening free air-conditioned cooling areas for the public. Residents can escape the heat, read, relax, chat and even play cards in designated spaces inside the stations.

The people-first initiative is winning praise online, turning public transit hubs into community shelters during the hottest days of the year.
