US and Iran signal progress in talks as Trump pauses strikes

Diplomatic efforts between the United States and Iran are showing signs of progress after nearly two weeks of military escalation.

US officials say President Donald Trump has paused further strikes to allow negotiations more time, while Iran says it has also suspended retaliatory attacks as long as American forces maintain their pause.

Qatar, Pakistan and Oman are continuing to mediate between Washington and Tehran as both sides explore ways to revive or replace the previous understanding aimed at reducing tensions.

Despite the diplomatic progress, the Strait of Hormuz remains a major flashpoint. Iranian officials say an oil tanker struck a naval mine after leaving a designated shipping route, while discussions continue over the future management of one of the world's most important energy corridors.

The report also examines Iran's warning that a Ukrainian attack on an Iranian vessel in the Caspian Sea "will not go unanswered," adding another layer of uncertainty to an already volatile regional situation.
